Stage-Gate Innovation Funnel Process Presentation Template

Most organizations have way more ideas than they know what to do with. Someone shouts something in a brainstorm, it goes on a sticky note, and then… nothing. Or everything moves forward at once and somehow nothing actually ships. That gap between “we have ideas” and “we have a product” is where most innovation actually dies not from lack of creativity, but from lack of a clear picture of how things are supposed to move.

This slide is basically that picture.

It’s an Innovation Funnel- wide at the top where the raw ideas pile in (represented as a cluster of colorful circles, which sounds simple but actually does a lot of work visually), narrowing down through four gates: Assessment, Development, Test, and Launch. Each gate has its own space for describing what the criteria actually are, which is the part I spent the most time on. Because a funnel without decision logic is just… a shape. The text areas are there so you can say “here’s what something needs to clear to move forward” and suddenly the whole slide has teeth.

The color scheme of this Innovation Funnel template is deliberate, too. The idea markers are vibrant against the softer gradient background — not because it looks cool (though it does), but because it makes the volume of early-stage ideas feel real. Lots of circles going in. Fewer things making it through. The visual does the explaining before you’ve said a word.

Why use an Innovation Funnel template?

It’s probably most useful if you’re presenting an R&D process, walking a team through how internal pitches get evaluated, or trying to explain design-thinking phases to people who’ve never heard the phrase “design-thinking phases” before. It’s less ideal if you just need a simple roadmap – there are cleaner formats for that.

Everything’s editable in PowerPoint and Google Slides. Swap the colors, rewrite the gate labels, pull out circles, add your own logic. It’s a starting point, not a prescription. Honestly, if you’ve ever had to explain “how we go from idea to launch” to a room full of skeptics — this makes that conversation a lot easier.
